Antigua Wedding

Residency

No specified time period. You can get married as soon as you arrive in Antigua as long as it's not late afternoon. Application must be made at the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, open Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The application fee for a special marriage license (as it is called) is US$150. The Marriage Officer's fee is US$50.

Required Documents

a) Valid passports for proof of citizenship.

b) Anyone previously married will need the original divorce decree.

c) In the event of the death of a previous spouse, the original marriage and death certificates are required.

d) Anyone under 18 years of age will need written authorization from a parent or guardian.

e) All documents must be an original or a certified original.

f) All documents must be in your legal name. If they are not, affidavits must be provided explaining the reason for the name change.

g) 2 witnesses must attend the marriage ceremony, apart from the marriage officer.

Religious Ceremonies

These require additional time and more advance planning.

a) Your pastor or priest should contact a church of your denomination.

b) Some churches require proof of pre-marital counseling before performing a ceremony.
