Dominican Republic Hotels
La Romana and Bayahibe

The hotels on the Dominican Republic south coast tend to be spaced farther apart than in the Bavaro-Punta Cana region,

Although some of the hotels have a La Romana address, they are actually located on the gorgeous beach at Bayahibe, a small fishing community about 20 minutes away.

This puts you in a good location to be close to a wide variety of activities here including full day trips to uninhabited offshore islands.

The main shopping district is Altos de Chavon, a recreated medieval village on a high bluff overlooking a winding jungle river.

If I had to choose between Bayahibe and Bavaro/Punta Cana, it would be Bayahibe hands down. Bavaro/Punta Cana has turned into a long, congested hotel row. Not what it was.
