The Sugar Train crosses a high bridge with Mt. Liamuiga in the background. These deep valleys, known as "ghuts," often drain a great deal of excess rainfall to the coast and may be dry the rest of the time.

Sugar cane was not the first crop grown on St. Kitts. Tobacco was, but it grew so much better in Virginia that it was abandoned.
