Trinidad
Shore Excursions

Trinidad is not the usual stop for most cruise lines. Ships that stop here are showing their passengers a part of the Caribbean most cruisers never see.

Trinidad’s typical shore excursions include scenic drives through the northern mountain range, beach trips and wildlife sanctuary tours. Tours last from 2 to 7 hours and cost between US$12 and US$170. The Tourism Information Office at the Cruise Ship Complex has a full listing of tours and prices.

These are the most popular Trinidad excursions.

Asa Wright Nature Centre
Located in Trinidad’s Northern Mountain Range, the Asa Wright Nature Centre is one of the world’s leading centers for bird watching.
Duration 5 hours

Island Circle
Experience Trinidad’s diverse landscape, from tropical forest to rolling hills covered by slim stalks of sugar cane and beaches.
Duration 7 hours

La Brea Pitch Lake
The village of La Brea in South Trinidad is home to the world’s largest asphalt lake. In addition to a seemingly inexhaustible supply of pitch, the lake produces mineral pools, touted by locals to have healing powers.
Duration 5 hours

Mount St Benedict Abbey
Located  800 feet above sea level on the forested slopes of the Northern Range, the Abbey is 25 minutes away from Trinidad’s capital, Port of Spain.  Founded in 1912, Mount St Benedict is the oldest monastery in the region and an excellent site for bird watching.
Duration 2.5 hours

City/ Saddle/ Maracas Drive
After going past Port of Spain’s historic buildings, then turns onto the Saddle Road in the suburb of Maraval. From there the tour goes along the picturesque North Coast Road to Maracas Bay.
Duration 4 hours
