The ride is shorter and less expensive from Red Hook to St. John, but depending on where you're staying, you might find it cheaper to leave from downtown Charlotte Amalie instead of taking a cab to Red Hook.

Cruise ship passengers in St. Thomas for the day will definitely want to use the ferry from downtown Charlotte Amalie.

If you have a rental car on St. Thomas or St. John, check out schedules for car ferries (also called car barges). Taking your car over is cheaper than renting one on the island you're visiting.
