Hurricane Forecasts
For This Year

In terms of the number of hurricanes, some years definitely are better (and worse) than others

Forecasts for for the number of tropical storms for each hurricane season are fairly good indicators how active a particular season will be. Unfortuantely, the predictions can't forsee the severity or strength of those storms.

Hurricane Andrew, which struck South Florida in 1992 and caused an estimated $26 billion in damage (US$41 billion in today's dollars) occured during a relatively inactive hurricane season.

Below are some of the world's most highly respected storm forecasters:

University College London, the Benfield Hazard Research Centre, UK

Colorado State University, one of the most respected weather forecasting projects with excellent accuracy.

National Hurricane Center, National Weather Service, United States
