Barbuda Frigate Bird Sanctuary

Location:
In Barbuda's northeast lagoon, accessible only by boat.

About 5,000 Fregata magnificens live here. Also called man o' war birds, the frigates have wingspans of four to five feet.

Best time to visit is in the fall during the courting period when the male frigates display their red throat pouch.

The frigates may get all the publicity but they share their sanctuary with another 170 species of birds.
