Only a few minutes west of Puerto Plata is Playa Cofresi, one of the Dominican Republic’s best beaches. Named for the pirate Roberto Cofresi,  Playa Cofresi is noted for good sunbathing, while the choppy waters provide excellent bodysurfing and boogie-boarding.

Ocean World Adventure Park, the DR’s largest marine theme park, is located here. It offers the chance  to swim with dolphins, feed stingrays, explore an artificial reef and more. In addition, Ocean World has added a large marina and spectacular casino.
