Barbados Currency Exchange and Travel Taxes

Currency: Although everything is quoted in dollars and cents--it's in Bajan currency. Since July 5, 1975, the Barbados dollar has been pegged to the US dollar at 1 USD = 2 Bds$. Divide all posted prices by half to find the U.S. equivalent.

Tipping & Taxes: Barbados keeps getting more expensive. A 7.5% government tax and 10% service charge are added to hotel bills. In addition, a 7.5% VAT (value added tax) applies to all meals, plus the 10% service charge. The departure tax is US$12.50.
In restaurants, see if a service charge has been added to your bill. If not, a tip of 10%-15% is customary.
Barbados has a departure tax of US$30 that may or not be included in the cost of your ticket. This is one of the highest departure taxes in the Caribbean.
