Tobago Fest
A Low Season Carnival

How much partying can you cram into a long weekend? At Tobago Fest, quite a lot:

In keeping with the Carnival tradition, the late September weekend event includes the Parade of bands, Fest Queen Contest, Night Mas, J'Ouvert, soca concerts and steelband.

A unique feature of Tobago Fest is the Traditional Mas which features Fancy Sailors, Beasts and Imps, Authentic and Fancy Indians, Jab Jabs and many more who contribute to the Fest and bring alive the cultural portrayals of yesteryear.

Also expect to see:

Speech Bands (roving, singing bands that carry greetings, news of the day or jokes from house to house, in local dialect mixed with exaggerated Scottish or English accents)

Tobago Bands (masquerade bands dressed in gaudy, extravagant regalia depicting royalty and genteel folk)

A recent addition to Tobago's social calendar, the fest is the brainchild of two Tobago Mas’ enthusiasts invited by the National Carnival Bands Association of Trinidad and Tobago (NCBA) to assist in producing a Trini style Carnival for Tobago.

With the backing of the Tobago government, Tobago Fest is still on the ground floor, the uncluttered beginnings of a major festival in the making.

In September, the cost of airline tickets and accommodations are less expensive and easier to come by than in February or March for the Trini event, making this all the more worthwhile time to visit. For more information, click here.
