How To Renew A U.S. Passport

You can renew a U.S. Passport by mail if your passport:

*Is undamaged and can be submitted with your application

* Was issued when you were age 16 or older
* Was issued within the last 15 years

*Was issued in your current name or you can legally document your name change

If you meet all these requirements, fill out Form DS-82 online and print it with black ink on single-sided pages. The passport renewal fee is $100 and the new passport is valid for 10 years.

When To Apply In Person

You will need to apply in person for a U.S. Passport renewal if:

*Your expired U.S. passport is not in your possession

*Your previous U.S. passport has expired and was issued more than 15 years ago

*Your previous U.S. passport was issued when you were under 16.
